240Hz and 360Hz are both extremely fast, and the difference between them is small. Going 240Hz to 360Hz cuts the time between frames from about 4.2ms to about 2.8ms — roughly a 1.4ms improvement, versus the ~12.5ms you save moving 60Hz to 144Hz. It is a real reduction in motion blur and latency that trained competitive shooter players can perceive, but it is subtle, and you only get it if your PC can actually render close to 360fps. For the vast majority of players, 240Hz is already past the point of obvious returns, and the money is better spent on resolution, panel quality, or the GPU that feeds the frames.

Why the step is so small

Refresh gains are a curve of diminishing returns, because each frame's on-screen time is 1000 divided by the Hz. 60Hz holds a frame for ~16.7ms; 144Hz for ~6.9ms; 240Hz for ~4.2ms; 360Hz for ~2.8ms. The absolute millisecond saving shrinks every time you climb. That is why 60→144 is transformative, 144→240 is noticeable in fast play, and 240→360 is a fine-margin change most people cannot reliably feel. You have to actually reach 360fps

A 360Hz monitor only shows its advantage when the game runs near 360fps. That is achievable in lightweight esports titles (competitive shooters, some at low settings) on a strong GPU and CPU, but not in demanding single-player games, where you might sit at 100–150fps — a frame rate a 240Hz panel already covers. Frame rate at these heights is often CPU-limited, so the upgrade can require more than a new graphics card. If your system cannot feed it, a 360Hz panel behaves like a 240Hz one you overpaid for. Who should get 360Hz

  • Dedicated competitive shooter players who play at a high level, run titles that hit 300fps+, and want every fractional edge in flick accuracy and motion clarity. This is the group the tier exists for.
  • Players who already have everything else— the resolution, panel and GPU they want — and treat 360Hz as the last box to tick.

Who should stick with 240Hz (or lower)

  • Almost everyone else. 240Hz is already superb for fast gaming and much easier to feed. The savings buys a better panel (an IPS or OLED instead of a basic one) or a higher resolution, both of which you will notice more than the last 120Hz.
  • Anyone playing story, RPG or slower titles, where frame rates never approach these numbers and the refresh ceiling is moot.

The honest cons of chasing 360Hz

High-refresh panels have historically leaned on TN or fast IPS technology, and the fastest ones can trade away colour, contrast or resolution to hit the number — though that gap has narrowed.
